Lawrence, flying a kite named âThe White Octopusâ, copped the âKing of the Parkâ title after flying away with the over sixteenâs and the largest kite categories, when Karib Cable staged its 10th Annual Kite Flying Competition at the Diamond Estate, Sunday, May 8, 2011.
Lawrence walked away with a handful of prizes, including an Acer notebook, a supersonic sound system, trophies, a six-pack of Smalta and gifts compliments of Premier Distributors.
On being named King of the Park, a delighted Lawrence said: âI was really looking forward to the final of the kite flying. I went on the Internet and saw the White Octopus design and thought this will definitely give me a winning chance this year, after trying for so long to win, and I finally did it. I am thankful to Karib Cable for continuing with this tradition and after the bad weather weâd had, I didnât think that there will be a final. However, here I am proudly named the âKing of the Parkâ.â
As far as his future participation is concerned, Lawrence assured: âIâll definitely be back to defend my title next year and to see what great prizes I can win again.â
Other winners at the grand family-oriented activity included: Rae-Dawn Thomas – the smallest kite; Arriel Toby, 4-months old â the youngest flyer; Kingsley Davis – the oldest flyer; Kemani King – 11-15 years category; and Dandre King â under 10 category.
Vance Garraway, Marketing Executive of Karib Cable, commented: âI am extremely pleased with the intensity and professionalism of the participants and the large crowd that came out to watch the kites and enjoy a fun day. This is just what Karib Cable kite flying is all about.â
According to Garraway, there are plans to stage the 2012 edition of the Competition at the same venue in Diamond, where Karib Cable will be preparing to host another enjoyable day of kite flying for all the family.
