A one-day promotion of the critically acclaimed cosmetic and skin care line Black Opal by beauty supply store Kismet was a response to the noted increase in the consciousness of appearance and the consumption of cosmetics and skin care products by women, and to some extent men.((more))
Simonne Goodluck, co-owner of the Grenville Street store, said that the promotion, which saw women receiving makeovers by Barbadian cosmetician Anita Holder took place to reintroduce the Black Opal line to Vincentians on Saturday, May 7.
âWhen you look around, weâve noticed that right now people are paying more attention to how they look, and moreso, make up sales are on the rise, so with that we think that this is a good time to promote Black Opal.â
âBlack Opal is the total skin care and cosmetic line for women of colour. When we say women of colour, we donât mean just black women; we mean anybody who has some pigmentation other than Caucasian: African, Asian, Hispanic, Indian. It can even cover European type skin.â
Goodluck said that the line is an extensive one which covers light and heavy foundations which can be had in liquid, sticks and powdered forms.
Compacts, lipsticks, mascaras, nail polishes and eye shadows in various shades are also available, which Goodluck says gives the face the complete Black Opal look.
âBehind that, we want you to follow up by using the skin care line to keep the face clean. Black Opal is the complete package for you.â
Black Opal was introduced in the United States in the early 1990s, and its popularity has spread world wide over a short period of time, with two stores dedicated to its products in Barbados and St. Lucia.
Holder, the Product Manager for these stores, lauded her product for its easy application and noted that a customer who is not certain of what they want for themselves can look at the product base and make the correct choice.
âIt is also a product that you can look at it and tell someone the shade that they are wearing.â
âIt is not a heavy product in terms of foundations. Even though it gives a matted finish, it is very light on the face, so that the face still breathes when you are wearing it.â
Both Holder and Goodluck indicated that the response to the product and the makeovers on the day was overwhelming, and that there were plans to make Kismet, which has been in existence since 2004, the local agent for the product.
Goodluck took the opportunity to invite not only persons interested in the Black Opal line, but also professionals and the one off consumer, to visit Kismet for their skin, hair and cosmetics needs.
âKismet is the one stop shop in beauty supplies. Just name it, we have it. Itâs all here.â
