The fourteen students: Grantley Bramble Jr., Chekesha King, Alecia Reece, Shane Charles, Sereen Allen, Fabian Young, Lisa Saunders, Camara Antoine, Mozette Lee, Kyle Williams, Paula-ann Noel, Rolica Hadaway, Shantel Yorke and Danika John were pinned with their badges during a graduation ceremony at the school.
Forty-four students initially applied to become Peer Counsellors, but that figure was narrowed down to 14 after interviews, a five week training programme, and overall observation of the studentsâ conduct.
Outlining the role of a peer counsellor, Guidance Counsellor Karishe T. Richards said the counsellors are expected to be responsible and caring, as well as to offer support to their peers.
Richards said the students underwent training in sexuality, how not to judge people, and discrimination.
She noted that she saw it necessary to start such a program because all of the other secondary schools in the surrounding communities have a counselling program.
Students desirous of becoming peer counsellors at the start of the new school year must be in Form 3 and beyond.
