His Excellency Charles James yesterday took the oath of office and allegiance, as he embarks on his one-week assignment, which commenced on May 9 and will end on May 15.
His Excellency will act on behalf of Governor-General Sir Frederick Ballantyne and his Deputy Monica Dacon, who are both out of state.
James, who is also a farmer, has served on a number of legislative boards in this country including the Public Service Commission and the judicial and legal service commission.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves described James as a very humble, wise and knowledgeable man.
He commended Governor-General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, who is in Turkey on official business, for his âentertainmentâ of
his (the PMâs) decision to appoint James to the position.
High Court Judge Sir Frederick Bruce Lyle said the appointment of James as acting Governor-Generalâs Deputy was a strong indicator of the governmentâs confidence in his work.
In his response, James said in his service to this country, he had never set his mind on an appointment of this nature.
He said he was extremely grateful for the opportunity which he would share with his dear wife.
The swearing in was witnessed by family members, members of Cabinet and other well wishers. (API)
