On the eve of Motherâs Day, the Jehovahâs Witness couple of Stubbs, held their bundles of joy, Kelvin, Alexander and Jade Johnson, with pride.
The triplet, who were born on January 27, 2010, were busy playing when SEARCHLIGHT caught up with the family..
Alexandra recalled the moment when she first learnt that she was having a triplet. She said as the technician did the ultrasound, he announced that he had seen two heads. She said shortly after asking if her family had twins, he gasped that there was a third head.
âI couldnât even think,â said Alexandra, noting that even when she called other relatives to relay the news, she was still in disbelief.
Her husband said he was surprised and a bit happy, but was very concerned for his wife, who has a petite body.
âI was wondering if she could have actually carried three babies. …I was somewhat worried about my wife. I was not really so much worried about myself, but how am I going to provide for them,â said Devin.
Devin said amidst the challenges that come with caring for his three children, they are a joy. He said after a long day at work he is always happy to return to them.
âThey bring joy and a lot of happiness to me,â said the father.
Alexandra told SEARCHLIGHT that while she is happy to be the mom of the triplets, she gets a bit stressed caring for them during the day when her husband is away.
âSometimes, I look at them and say âWhatâs going on,â but at the end of the day, I look at them and I laugh to see how happy they are,â said Alexandra.
Describing the childrenâs personalities, Alexandra said her firstborn, Kelvin Johnson, would often display authority when he interacts with his siblings, Alexander and Jade. Jade is the quiet one amongst the trio and is more of a follower.
The parents admitted that providing for the triplets can be âhardâ and even frustrating at times.
âI would say itâs really tough. Sometimes you have a little money put aside at least to do stuff, then you hear they need pampers, cereal. Itâs really hard; itâs really tough at times,â said Devin.
The Johnsons are in the process of building their home and this has added to their challenges as well as having to meet the medical expenses to care for their children.
To parents, who may one day have a twin or even triplets, Alexandra said: âKeep praying, be thankful because itâs a gift. Sometimes it will be frustrating, but at the end of the day they will make you smile.
âBy having these children and being at home in the day, I think of single mothers, too. Single mothers, my heart goes out to you all, because with me itâs really hard even though I have the support of my husband. I could imagine what you are going through,â said Alexandra.
Devin advised that couples should try and save before they have children.
