Some residents believe that the spa water has healing properties and offers longevity if it is drunk in moderate amounts. Tourists usually visit the spa to take a taste of the natural flowing mineral spa water.
As a gesture to encourage Vincentians to cherish our water resources, the West St. George Secondary School Young Leaders took the initiative to visit the spa and planted about 30 flowers to beautify the area. These plants were carefully selected to improve the aesthetics of the area. About nine different varieties of ornamental flowers were planted by the Young Leaders as they collaborated with the Forestry Division.
Present from the Division were Glen Grant; Casmus McLeod; Jason Baker, and Osa Samuel. Some of the plants included Cane Palm, Royal Palm, Ixora, Croton, Cat Tail and Burganvilla. The plants used were mostly flowering and easy to maintain since they do not require much pruning. The Young Leaders will visit the spa at intervals to help maintain these plants. The Young Leaders wish to thank the Forestry Division for their unwavering support as they encourage Vincentians to conserve water to preserve life.
Last week the Young Leaders also completed their water drive by conducting surveys with residents in Kingstown and interacting with them on the importance of conserving water. They also took the opportunity to encourage residents to practice rain water harvesting and grey water use.
This week the Young Leaders hope to complete their board game H20 which they have created to encourage citizens to conserve water. This game will be launched at their symposium on Friday, April 15, at the National Insurance Services Conference Room, upstairs the NIS building.
