“No matter where you come from:

Pan-Africanism in Caribbean Popular Culture”.

The second lecture captioned “Addi Di Teacha: Lessons from the Lyrics of Vybz Kartel- A conversation with students and young people” will take place on Friday, May 13, from 1:00 p.m.to 3:00 p.m. at Frenches House.

Both lectures will be delivered by Professor Carolyn Cooper, Professor of Literary and Cultural Studies in the Department of Literatures in English at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica.

Her research interests are in Dance Hall culture, Reggae Studies, Jamaican and Caribbean nation language, Caribbean literary works, and Caribbean popular culture.

She is a popular figure on the public lecture circuit, has served as visiting professor in universities around the world, and has been a columnist with the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper since 2009.

As part of her interest in Jamaican popular culture, she recently invited Jamaican artiste Vybz Kartel to deliver a lecture at the Mona Campus, an activity that attracted 5,000 people.

A news release from The University of the West Indies Open Campus, SVG, says Cooper is dynamic and articulate and likes to tell it as it is.

The general public is invited to attend her lecture at the Methodist Church Hall on Thursday evening, and a special invitation is extended to students and young people to attend the lecture at Frenches House on Friday.
