On Wednesday, April 20, members of the Union made a visit to the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO), where they presented items for persons displaced in the April 11 and 12 deluge which forced a number of villagers out of their homes and into shelters.
Acting President of the SVGTU Ronald Clarke, presenting a variety items to NEMO, said the Unionâs Executive took the decision to assist the persons affected by the floods and called NEMO to facilitate the contribution.
âWe at the Teachersâ Union are taking this step and hope that others will also take the step together so that we can make a difference in the lives of all those affected.â
âWe take great pleasure in presenting these items to NEMO so that they themselves would be able to in turn help in the relief of those persons who are now in shelters,â said Clarke.
Roxanne Williams received the items on behalf of NEMO. She thanked the Teachersâ Union for its contribution to the relief efforts, which she said will go a long way.
Williams also urged other organizations to rise to the occasion and help in any way they can in the relief efforts which are taking place to alleviate the constraints of the displaced villagers.
Items donated by the Teachersâ Union included bottled water, pots, brooms, toiletries and other basic necessities. (JJ)
