The group left the mainland on Monday, April 4, to travel to the picturesque island of Mayreau, where they camped at the community centre under the kind patronage of Father Mark. At the centre, the girls were actively practising water conservation measures. It is a well known fact that persons residing in the Grenadines are constantly facing difficulties to obtain water. The girls got firsthand knowledge of some of those water issues. The young leaders also took the opportunity to do a survey among the residents on that island.
The second leg of the journey was spent at the Tobago Cays Marine Park. There the girls were educated on the history and purposes of the park. They also got a glimpse of the mangroves located there.
The SJCK young leaders also visited desalination plants. Desalination refers to the process of converting salt water to fresh water so it is suitable for human consumption or irrigation. There is one located at Raffles Resort, one in Mayreau, and another on Bequia that caters for the Frangipani and Gingerbread Hotels.
