The family held a service of thanksgiving for the life of their matriach at her home in Calder.
Pastor Sylvan Samuel of the Seventh Day Adventist Church gave a brief exhortation after a period of lusty singing of hyms such as âWhen we walk with the Lordâ and âNow thank we all our Godâ.
Samuel reminded the gathering that not everyone would live to the age of 100 plus. He attributed this milestone to Godâs grace. When asked about some of the food she likes, Richards said with a broad smile:âBreadfruit! Anyhow it comes.â
She pointed out that years ago, people ate a lot of ground provisions and drank cowâs milk and cocoa tea, etc, as well as used local remedies for colds and other things.
Though 104, Richards appeared as though she is in her 80s.
Her relatives told SEARCHLIGHT all her mental faculties are intact, with just a slight memory lapse.
âShe is still very strong and is in high spirits,â said a relative, adding that âShe is a very polite lady.â
Her seven children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, two sisters, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, all wished her a happy birthday and prayed that she lives to see many more.
