Regional Media Conference to be held in St. Vincent
Media workers from around the Caribbean are expected to gather in St. Vincent and the Grenadines next week for the Caribbean Media and Communication Conference, which will be held in commemoration of World Press Freedom Day.{{more}}
The conference will be held on May 4 and 5 at the National Insurance Services conference facility on Bay Street.
The theme for this yearâs celebration is – â21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriersâ. The focus of the celebration is on the potential of the Internet and digital platforms, as well as the more established forms of journalism, in contributing to freedom of expression, democratic governance, and sustainable development.
The conference will be hosted by the Ministry of Education, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Commission for UNESCO, in collaboration with the UNESCO Kingston Cluster Office for the Caribbean, the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) and the Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM).
The keynote address will be presented by Director of Public Prosecutions Colin Williams. The conference will also hear other speakers from St. Vincent and the Grenadines and other Caribbean countries. Several media workers from throughout the Caribbean and St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) are expected to participate in this conference.
An official opening ceremony will take place at the NIS Conference facility on Wednesday, May 4, at 9:00 am.
