LIME contributes half million towards relief efforts

LIME, the Caribbean’s leading full service telecommunications provider, on Tuesday, April 26, contributed EC $500,000 to the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines to assist in relief efforts{{more}} in the north-east areas of mainland St. Vincent.

The areas from Colonarie to Georgetown experienced damage to infrastructure on April 12, following torrential showers.

The cheque was handed over to Deputy Prime Minister Girlyn Miguel at the Cabinet Room.

During the handover ceremony, Angus Steele, LIME’s General Manager, said: “We are extremely pleased to make this significant contribution to the relief efforts in the affected areas. This contribution was approved by the Operating Board when an evaluation of the damage was submitted to the members immediately after the disaster struck. We will like this contribution to be used as a rebuilding fund, since most of the damaged homes are completely destroyed and will have to be rebuilt. We have already installed two water tanks in Brownstown and Chili Village, so that persons in those villages can get some relief. We have also donated significant amounts of bottled water to the shelter in Langley Park. Additionally, one member of the staff has adopted a family who was affected.”

The announcement brought a round of applause from members of the media present at the ceremony.

In her response to the contribution, Deputy Prime Minister Miguel lauded LIME for its commitment to the Government’s work in the community. Said Miguel: “It is no surprise to me that LIME has come forward with such a significant contribution. The Government is extremely grateful to LIME, and even though the private sector has responded admirably, I encourage other businesses to do likewise. A lot of work has already been done, and as the rain continues to fall, houses already cleaned were damaged again. The company has always shown its commitment to helping the community and this is a true indication of the motto: LIME for Living. Everyday.”

LIME has also implemented a text promotion, in which LIME customers can text “Flood” to 4357. All funds collected will go towards the relief effort.
