Frederick, 35, originally from Richland Park, Mesopotamia, died in a vehicular accident on Wednesday, April 13, around 6pm, in Barbados, where has been residing for the past 22 years.

Barbados Police and newspaper reports state that Frederick was riding his motorcycle on the Kingsland section of the ABC Highway when he collided with a motorvan driven by Peter Maxwell of Crab Hill St. Lucy.

He sustained serious injuries in the collision, and was transported by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he died.

Frederick’s sister Theresa Frederick said that information she received indicates that her brother, who has been an avid motorcycle rider for the past four years, may have been riding on the inside of traffic when he slammed into the back of the vehicle before losing control.

“They didn’t give me any detail on exactly how this accident would have happened. We don’t know if someone might have slipped him or something….”

Speaking to Searchlight by telephone this Monday ,April 18, Theresa said that the former Bishop’s College Kingstown student, who was a truck driver by profession, lived at Charnocks Road, Christ Church, Barbados, and leaves behind a girlfriend as well as a 13-year-old son and a six-year-old daughter.

He was the last of five children born to Eric Dopwell and Vashtie Williams.

His sister said that the family is taking his death in stride, since he was the type of person who did not like people to worry over him.

“He didn’t like burdening anybody. He liked to do what he had to do and get it over with…. He was the kind of person that even if he was sick, as soon as he can move he will move….”

“Though we are crying, we are trying to stay strong for his sake and to move on otherwise, because being down and dragging along is not the way Sydney would have wanted us to be anyway ‘cause he was not that type of person.”

Frederick will be buried in Barbados on Saturday.

Frederick is the second Vincentian to meet his death on the roads of Barbados in less than a month.

On March 26, Vincentian Mavis Ward, 38, was struck and killed by a motor vehicle in Barbados while she was having an early morning walk.
