The presentation was made last Friday, April 15, at the newly opened National Public Library facility, by William Couch, a political officer of the US Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, based in Barbados. Couch explained that the donation of the 22 books to the library brought the tally of books handed out to libraries, schools and community organizations to 2,444.
He said that the collection of 11 fiction and 10 non fiction titles, which were selected from the â2010 notable booksâ list, expands the horizon for human knowledge, make a specialized body of knowledge accessible to the non specialist, or have the potential to contribute to the solution of a contemporary problem or presenting a truly unique concept.
Couch said that he trusts that the donation marks the start of a renewed and vibrant partnership between the Embassy and the library services, and that patrons to the library would enjoy the material that was provided.
Saying âthanksâ on behalf of St. Vincent and the Grenadines was Catherine Joyette, Senior Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Education. Joyette said that she, too, hoped that the donation would be the beginning of a lasting partnership, and that the presentation would be the first of many to come.
Also present at the handover of the books were David Lewis from the US Embassy in Barbados, Andrea Hazel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Trisha-Ann Job-Moses, Director of Librairies (ag).(JJ)
