Outreach Programme fits the elderly with hearing aids this Easter
The National Insurance Services Golden Years Activity Centre at Cane Grove has benefited this Easter from the community outreach programme initiated by the SVG Medical Association, in collaboration with the Caribbean Medical Imaging Centre{{more}} – an initiative which started about eight months ago where Digital Hearing Testing was afforded to members of the Activity Centre by Audiometrist- Shannon Durrant.
All members at the Activity Centre were tested for hearing loss as well diagnostic testing for ear diseases. Those candidates who were willing and whose results placed them in a severe to profound hearing loss category were given the opportunity to have ear impressions made, which were then sent to Canada to have personalized ear molds produced.
SVGMA, in collaboration with CMIC, is committed to this programme, and along with the help from the Canadian Hearing Services and the Bernafon Co. of Canada, on April 13, 2011, six candidates were excited to receive their hearing aids, which enhanced their hearing and will improve their quality of life.
Durrant is the Treasurer of the SVG Medical Association and can be reached at 4570317.
