Grammar School Young Leaders donate water
Last Saturday, the St. Vincent Grammar School Young Leaders set out on a special mission.{{more}}
This mission was to provide fresh drinking water for persons in Georgetown who were affected in the recent flooding.
Before the incident, the group had originally planned to clean the Buccuament River, but because of the life threatening situation that is currently being experienced by some communities on the windward side of the island, they decided to tend to this matter instead.
As the group journeyed to Georgetown, the members were able to see some of the damage that was caused during the heavy rains and flooding. The group was amazed by the amount of damage caused. Ironically, just two weeks ago, the group passed through these very same communities for a tour of the Mountain Top Springs Ltd. Factory.
When the group arrived in Georgetown they immediately drew the attention of persons who were in the surrounding areas. In total, the group carried 24 cases of 500ml bottles, which translated to 672 bottles for distribution. Along with this, they carried five 4Litre bottles of Mountain Top Spring Water also for donation.
The Young Leaders began their journey from Georgetown to the Langely Park Government school, stopping and providing water for those in need along the way. Along the way, the group was supported and encouraged by many residents. On arriving at the shelter in Langely Park, the group ensured to distribute water to all occupants. Along with this, they spoke with the residents about their experience during the recent catastrophe.
The Grammar School Young Leaders further encouraged residents to conserve water, especially due to their current water situation. The group hoped that their contribution would be adequate to improve the situation of many residents at the present time. Also, during a recent assembly held on Monday, April 18, 2011, the Young Leaders continued to contribute towards helping those residents affected by donating water to two students of the St.Vincent Grammar School who were tremendously affected by the recent occurrences.
Cody Ince and Emilio Solemon each received a case of water in the hope that it would improve their water situation.
