Friday, speaking on phone to Searchlight on Wednesday evening, said that his party was in the area yesterday, Thursday, getting a first-hand look at the damage that had been done by the flooding, which was caused by a trough system which unleashed rains in the area for close to two days.
Speaking on behalf of Political Leader Arnhim Eustace, who is on vacation, Friday noted that the party will be mobilizing to offer assistance and support to persons in need.
âWhen we assess the situation we will know specifically where we could to assist. In the short term we have called on many persons to reach out to one another and help in this time of crisis.
âIâve heard from people that they need drinking water and clothing and food stuff.â
Friday said that the party has been kept up to date on what is happening in the area by Kenroy Johnson and Elvis Daniel, candidates for the party during the 2011 General elections.
He said that like everyone else, the party is grateful that there was no loss of life during the situation.
He also made an appeal to the authorities to get to the bottom of what would have caused a situation like that to occur and how it could be avoided in the future.
âIt could have been much more serious. It is by the grace of God that that was not the case.
âThey (the authorities) have to look and see what triggered this⦠and make sure all those logs that are blocking the waterways at the bridges, because the rains may not stop for some time.â (JJ)
