Thom was at the time addressing jurors, and other court officials, at the close of the Criminal Assizes, at the High Court on Wednesday, April 5.
âThe police canât do their investigations without the help of the public. People tend to always say itâs the policeâs fault, but police canât manufacture evidence,â Thom said.
She noted that it is also part of the publicâs responsibility to help the police to bring criminals to justice.
The judge also underscored the importance of lifting the standard of how people conduct themselves. âPeople have to learn to walk away. We have reached the stage where, if youâre walking down the road and someone mash you, you would have to tell them sorry instead,â she chuckled.
Thom said people must learn how to control themselves and not take the law into their own hands.
