Justice Thom calls for two Courts to hold assizes

Justice Gertel Thom has called for the High Court to hold the assizes in two courts again, in order to decrease the number of murder matters.{{more}}

At the close of the Criminal Assizes on Wednesday, April 5, Thom noted her concern about the number of the murder matters that are still awaiting trial.

That figure stands at 34.

The court had carried out two sittings of the Criminal Assizes simultaneously a few years ago, which proved to be successful in reducing the number of cases on the assizes list.

“I hope the prosecution will pay attention to these matters. There are a lot of them on the list,” Thom stated.
