Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said in Parliament last Tuesday, April 5, that the Select Committee had already met and that a follow-up meeting will be held on May 5.
Although, according to the Prime Minister, he did not anticipate that the Christian Council would be ready to present its findings after submitting a request to conduct an independent study.
Appointed members from the government side and other invited groups, including Judith Jones-Morgan, Attorney General; Kay Bacchus-Browne, President of the Bar Association; Parnell Campbell Q.C, and Godfrey Samuel, Chairman of the Christian Council, were present, according to the Prime Minister.
Gonsalves again refuted claims that any changes made to the RPA would infringe on the rights of the people, saying that the Bill does not affect any action being taken by the law courts.
He also responded to comments made by some that the government wanted to pass the Bill quickly to deal with cases that were already before the court.
âThat is not true. It has nothing to do with that,â Gonsalves explained. (DD)
