This was disclosed by Jackie Thelwell, UCCâs Project Director for the OECS/Jamaica.
Thelwell told SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday, March 30, that the University will be offering accredited bachelorâs degree programmes in Business Administration, Information Technology and Human Resource Management.
These programmes will be delivered in two main formats, online as well as face-to-face contacts. The online format takes a blended form. Thelwell explained that 80 percent of the online format will be delivered online, while 20 percent will be face-to-face.
Students desirous of pursuing their studies with UCC can apply for admission in May 2011, as well as September 2011. The May intake will be solely through online delivery, but the September intake will be for both online and face-to-face offerings.
UCC will also be offering Masterâs degree programmes in Business Administration and Public Administration.
Thelwell noted that students can apply online or through its St.Vincent and the Grenadines contact Camille Crichton, of Professional Secretarial & Consultancy Services.
The bachelorâs degree programme, done over a four-and-a-half-year period at part time, will cost US$10,800, but students who are interested in pursuing an Associate degree only will be required to pay US$5,400.
Thelwell said if a student already holds an associate degree which is equivalent to UCCâs, that student will only be required to sit the upper level of the bachelorâs degree programme and spend approximately two years completing that programme, at a cost of US$5,400.
The masterâs degree programme on the other hand will cost US$12,000.
âYou cannot wait for the world to pass you by. You need to take advantage of the opportunities in education that are now available,â said Thelwell.
She is encouraging Vincentians to use the opportunities that are available to them, whether it is to pursue studies online or face-to-face.
Highlighting the benefits of a UCC education, Thelwell reiterated that the institutionâs programmes are accredited and are structured to help students succeed.
She said UCC has a flexible payment plan, noting that while students have the option of paying all their fees up front, the University also accepts monthly payments.
âYou donât necessarily have to go and take a loan, but yes you may. This can be paid for out of your earnings, each month,â said Thelwell.
She said UCC has a professional staff ready to help students to succeed.
The University College of the Caribbean is a privately owned University College, offering courses at the Diploma, Associate, Bachelorâs and Masterâs levels of education.
In 2002, the Institute of Management Sciences (IMS â est. January 1992), acquired the Institute of Management and Production, (IMP â est. January 1976) to form the largest private higher education consortium in Jamaica. The merger created the University College of the Caribbean (UCC). UCC became the parent organization in 2004 and established the second private university in Jamaica. The new entity, in partnership with Florida International University (FIU), the University of Florida (UF), and the Florida State University (FSU), has since embarked on a major initiative to launch a number of new business, information technology and engineering training programs in Jamaica, which began in June 2005.
