No unusual volcanic activity at La Soufriere
In a press release issued on March 23, the UWI Seismic Research Centre said it received reports that a âsmoke-likeâ haze has been observed at La Soufriere volcano in St. Vincent.{{more}}
The Centre, however, says instruments at the Seismic Research Centre do not indicate any change in volcanic seismicity at La Soufriere at this time.
The release said a similar haze has been observed at the volcano in previous years, usually around this time of year.
âIt is quite likely that this phenomenon may be related to atmospheric changes. This haze does not signify an impending eruption.â
âA team from the Soufriere Monitoring Unit (SMU) will be making an expedition to the summit of the volcano early next week for observational purposes. Following this expedition an update will be issued,â the release said.
