Acting Director of NEMO Michelle Forbes told the Agency for Public Information (API) the campaign will run until the end of April. She said although there are many geological hazards, the main areas of focus for the local campaign will be earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.

She said this year will mark the 32nd anniversary of the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano. Therefore, there is the need to remind Vincentians that the threat of another eruption is real.

To remember the event, NEMO will host a ‘Views on Issues’ programme to be aired on NBC Radio 705 on Sunday, April 10, and an exhibition at heritage square on Friday, April 15.

During the months of March and April, the organisation will also host radio and television programmes and visit schools, with the aim of educating and sensitising students on geological hazards and their effects.

The public awareness campaign will continue throughout the year.
