TGHF to stage culture exhibition today

The Garifuna Heritage Foundation (TGHF) will stage an exhibition at the National Trust Building (Old Public Library) beginning today.{{more}}

The event has as its theme “Indigenous people, African Descendants : the Garifuna Culture – a world heritage masterpiece” and will feature exhibits from the Afrikan Heritage Foundation and the International Year of People of African Descent Committee.

The opening ceremony, which commences at 10:00 a.m., is open to the general public. The exhibition will run from March 8 to 10.

TGHF will also be organizing their Fourth Community Gathering in celebration of National Heroes and Heritage Month 2011 and their Tenth Anniversary Celebrations.

The community gathering will be held under the theme “Facing the challenge, planning for change”, at the Rose Bank Community Centre on Saturday, March 19, 2011, commencing at 9:00 am. There will be cultural presentations from each community as well as presentations on strategies for promoting elements of the Garifuna Heritage and Culture to enhance the social and economic benefit of Garifuna communities.

It is expected that over 150 participants will be attending from the traditional Garifuna communities, and that TGHF will continue after the Gathering to work with the communities to build and strengthen their links with one another and to develop the understanding of the Garifuna history and culture.

The TGHF will celebrate its Tenth Anniversary in July 2011.
