He made the announcement at the Unity Labour Party (ULP) rally at Biabou, on Sunday evening.

“I’ve been working very, very hard without a holiday. Very shortly, I intend to take a couple weeks off and I will show the NDP that I can take a couple weeks off and leave the ship of state in the hands of comrade sister Girlyn Miguel,” said Gonsalves.

Miguel, the country’s first female Deputy Prime Minister, was appointed to the post shortly after the December 13, 2010, General Elections. She replaced former Deputy Prime Minister Sir Louis Straker.
