CYEN-SVG hosts poster competition

The Caribbean Youth Environment Network St Vincent and the Grenadines (CYEN-SVG) Chapter is hosting a Poster Competition under the theme: “Preserving our Biodiversity, our pathway to prosperity.”{{more}}

The competition, which is in progress, began on January 12, and will run until March 5, 2010, to coincide with activities in commemoration of CYEN-SVG’s 2nd anniversary.

This competition is designed to involve young people between the ages of 14 – 20 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in environmental issues.

The artwork should visualize ways to protect both our diverse and fragile, aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Such actions may include using recycled wood chips as mulch to keep weeds down, retain moisture and prevent erosion, and avoiding slow-burning, smoldering fires as they produce the largest amount of pollution.

Artwork should be submitted to Yoland London of the Community Development Division, Kenny Black, Lecturer at the Community College, and Petronella King, Teacher at the Campden Park Secondary School, no later than February 25, 2010.

Entry Rules and Conditions: Art work must be done on paper measuring 24” x 24”. Full name, age (day, month, year) and full address, including phone and e-mail must be on the back of the painting. Any style of artwork is acceptable: crayons, colored pencils, watercolors, oil, charcoal and the like. Artwork that has been shown or accepted elsewhere will not be accepted in this competition. Artwork that shows a particular person, an organization or a brand name will not be accepted. Words or descriptions should not be included in the artwork. Only hard copies of artwork will be accepted (E-mail entries will only be accepted after hard copies are received).

Winners will be announced on the Tuesday, March 1, 2010. Prizes will be presented at an awards ceremony, to be held on March 5.

The first prize winner will be awarded EC$300 and a special prize. The second prize winner will be awarded EC$200 along with a prize and the third prize winner will be awarded EC$150 and a prize.
