Peace Corps volunteers to host ‘Pieces of Peace’

St. Vincent-based U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers have scheduled a cross-cultural program from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rehobot Restaurant in Keartons on Friday, January 28. Called “Pieces of Peace,” the cross-cultural experience will feature music, art, poetry, drama and other creative activities presented and performed by community artists.{{more}}

Area youth and adults are encouraged to be part of this exciting program.

“The Pieces of Peace programme is built on the concept that peace is best served through small, daily interactions, and the sharing and appreciation of each other’s talents and cultural uniqueness,” explains Barrouallie-based Volunteer Sarah Ward who is coordinating the Keartons event. The Keartons program is the third in a series of Pieces of Peace programs hosted by Volunteers across St. Vincent, with earlier programs held in Kingstown and Biabou.

“We’re looking forward to bringing this programme to the Leeward side of the island,” says Ward. If you have an individual or group talent you would like to share, we hope you’ll be a part of the program. And, of course, community residents are cordially invited to attend.”

The Pieces of Peace cross-cultural program series coordinated by St. Vincent-based Volunteers is part of a year-long local celebration of the U.S. Peace Corps 50th Anniversary. The U.S. Peace Corps was established in 1961 to promote development, peace and friendship around the world. Today, nearly 8,000 Volunteers serve in more than 75 countries. St. Vincent currently hosts 21 Volunteers who live and work in communities from Chateaubelair to Sandy Bay.
