Mustique Charitable Trust donates $12,000 to Helping Hands centre

Four students who attend the Helping Hands Centre have been fortunate enough to receive financial assistance from the Mustique Charitable Trust.{{more}}

D-Nielson Thomas, Cedel Charles, Deroy Jack and Juliana Doyle will benefit from a donation of $12,000, which will help with their school fees and other related costs.

Kathryn Cyrus, member on the Helping Hands Centre’s (HHC) board, received the cheque from Roger Pritchard – chairman of the Mustique Charitable Trust.

Cyrus said that this was the second year that the Trust had generously donated to the institution.

“We are most grateful!” she said.

Cyrus pointed out that the donation would be a great help to the students’ parents because it would ease some of their financial burden.

Pritchard said that the Trust, which was set up in 2008, is designed to help under-privileged children and adults.

Since August 2010, the Trust has made donations to the Hurricane Tomas Relief Fund, Sports for Life and the St. Benedict’s Home, among others.

Pritchard added: “We… look forward to being able to support the [Helping Hands] Centre in the future.”

He also mentioned that the Trust has recently donated $3,500 to the School for Children with Special Needs, which will go towards covering some of the cost of providing its students with breakfast.

To date the Mustique Charitable Trust has donated more than $500,000 to various charities.

Also present at the handing over was Norma Knights, representative of the Soroptimist International, and Annis John and Cuthbert James , representing the HHC and its Board of Directors, respectively.(JV)
