The absence of her annual childrenâs Christmas party did not stop Georgette âAunty Gâ Nanton from spreading Christmas joy to children in some North Windward communities.{{more}}
On Christmas Day (December 25, 2010), Nanton, accompanied by Andrew âUncle Dubâ Yearwood and a number of helpers, journeyed from Georgetown to Sandy Bay, making stops to distribute gifts and snacks to children along the way.
Nanton, who first started spreading Christmas cheer with organized and well-attended parties at her Langley Park residence in 2007, added the distribution of toys to the event last December. She said that although there was no party this year, she and her team felt that the children of the communities still needed to be shown that they were appreciated.
With contributions from Courts St. Vincent Ltd, Frank B Armstrong and others, the team travelled to Sandy Bay, making stops along the way to distribute gifts and snacks, and mingled with the children and parents in the villages.
Nanton said that the response from the children and parents was overwhelming, and that has given her the motivation to continue the tradition next year, when she will be celebrating five years of spreading Christmas joy.
