‘Nine Mornings’ begins

The first morning of the 2010 Nine Mornings festivities successfully drew hundreds of Vincentians and visitors to Heritage Square last Thursday morning.{{more}}

The unique Vincentian tradition got underway on December 16, and attracted visitors from as far as Israel and the United Kingdom. Other visitors also came from New York, Trinidad and neighbouring country, Barbados.

The guests were given the opportunity to introduce themselves to the crowd and sing a Christmas song of their choice.

Some of the festival’s performances came from the Exalt Him Worship Team, Glenroy “Sulle” Caesar, and Destini and Rondell Patterson, who belted out two original Christmas songs. The children were by no means left out as they battled through the “best dog park” competition, among others.

Various prizes were also distributed from a number of business houses in and around Kingstown.

However, it was Jett Llewellyn, the youngest first timer at the event, who stole the spotlight. The toddler, along with his mom, Vestricia Llewellyn, attempted to sing “The Virgin Mary”. While Vestricia sang, her seven-month old bundle of joy was quite busy trying to grab the microphone away from his mother.

For their efforts, Jett was awarded a $50 start at FirstCaribbean International Bank (FCIB).

Co-ordinator of the Nine Mornings festivities Michael Peters, in an interview with SEARCHLIGHT, said that people had placed the recently concluded General Elections behind them and are starting to enjoying the Christmas Season.

“We have been having very good mornings and some very good crowds too,” he said.

This year, new activities have been added to the festival, including aerobics, bicycle riding and tennis.

Peters said it is hoped that more sporting disciplines will be added next year.

“We just want to make sure that everyone is involved in this festival of ours,” Peters said.(KW)
