20 TVET students are certified Trained Assessors for CVQ

Twenty persons in Technical and Vocational Educational Training (TVET) received certificates as Trained Assessors for the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ).{{more}}

This was done at a presentation ceremony at the Curriculum Unit on Friday, November 19.

The training sessions took place last August and were conducted by the National Training Agency of Trinidad and Tobago (NATT) as part of ongoing activities of the Ministry of Education in the implementation of CVQ programmes.

The Ministry of Education has expressed interest in having a successful implementation of the CVQ programmes, given its importance in all-round development of students and marketability of the qualification within the CSME.

The certificates presented were for four unit awards towards a CVQ level 4 in training and assessment. These are four core units that would enable the TVET instructors to prepare assignments and assess students for the award of the CVQ.

The awards included development of assessment tools, plan assessment, conduct assessment and review assessment.

Among the persons trained are two principals of technical institutes, three lecturers from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, two tutors from adult and continuing education, two teachers from the Union Island Secondary School, one teacher from the Kingstown Preparatory School and instructors from the technical institutes.

Aldia Dyer, Senior Education Officer, said that the Ministry of Education is committed to working assiduously to modernize TVET provisions and to ensure that the training provided will enable the youths to acquire the competencies for certification that will have currency at national and regional levels.

She said there is need for more work to be done, but important steps have already been taken.

Dyer spoke about future plans, which include a functioning sector skills development agency.

She said that persons who participated in the training sessions are even more competent when making decisions.
