Premier Distributors makes donation to NEMO

Premier Distributors, the local agent for a wide range of snacks sold here, has made a donation to the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) as a means of giving back to the Vincentian public in a time of need.{{more}}

On Wednesday, November 10, Premier Distributors, at its Calliaqua base, made an official presentation to Michelle Forbes, Acting Director of NEMO, of 200 cases (24 packs in each case) of Crix biscuit. Even though the presenation took place this week, the items were distributed to persons affected by Hurricane Tomas as early as Sunday, October 31, and Tuesday, November 2.

“It’s our corporate responsibility. As a nation we must remember that life’s challenges and difficulties are not intended to arrest our progress, but to increase our speed and strengthen us,” Allyson Smith-Sampson, Premier Distributors Ltd. Business Manager, said as she delivered brief remarks at the presentation ceremony.

She explained that whatever the challenges are, with the help of God, Vincentians will be able to surmount them.

Smith-Sampson used the opportunity to speak highly of Premier Distributors Ltd. Senior Sales Officer, Melvourne Abbott, who assisted in distributing the Crix cases although he had personally lost his house roof during the passage of the hurricane.

Forbes, in accepting the donation, complimented Premier Distributors Ltd. for the initiative in giving the Crix biscuits gratis. She said as part of NEMO’s disaster relief programme, it had started to establish Memoranda of Understanding with businesses to have products delivered immediately in the event of a disaster and be paid at a later date. She said Premier Distributors Ltd. was one such company and it is welcoming to have them donate the goods, instead of charging a fee.

Forbes disclosed that the Crix donated was distributed to people in shelters, and also to those displaced but who were housed in other locations.

She said NEMO will continue to establish MOU because it has proven to be effective.
