Digicel donates to Sandy Bay residents

Vincentians are slowly but surely getting their lives back together after the passage of Hurricane Tomas, and Digicel is making sure that they play a major role in helping to make this transition a smooth one.{{more}}

On Wednesday afternoon, Digicel’s Country Manager Sonia Polius, Marketing Executive Justin John and Channel Manager Gershom Dick travelled to Sandy Bay, where they handed over a number of much needed supplies to Shelter Manager at the Sandy Bay Government School St. Elbert Walters.

Walters, along with Police Corporal 66 Valdino Jack, both agreed that the supplies came at a good time. Among the things handed over by the Digicel team were bottled water, clothing, boxes of crackers and corned beef. Polius and her team also distributed EC$5,000 in pre paid phone credit to persons housed at the shelter. The team plans to give away an additional EC$9,000 in phone credit and more supplies to needy persons nationwide.

Polius said that Digicel’s involvement in the rebuilding process will be an ongoing one. She revealed that Digicel has partnered with Courts St. Vincent Limited where both companies are encouraging persons to make donations of whatever they are able to spare.

“Bring anything that you know persons might need and leave them at our stores,” said Polius, who added that the items will be distributed through the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO).

Polius also said that the distribution of the pre-paid credit is so that persons can reach family members who might be overseas or reside on other parts of the island.
