BRAGSA spends 9.5m on repairs and maintenance

As of August 31, 2010, some $9.5 million has been spent by the Bridges, Roads and General Services Authority (BRAGSA) on road repairs and maintenance.{{more}}

The figure was disclosed by Minister of Transport and Works, Clayton Burgin, in Parliament on Monday, October 25.

According to Burgin, $18 million was allocated to the entity for the year 2010, and based on estimates, the Minister said that it was projected that the entire amount would be spent by the end of the year.

He gave an account of the spending, which included $2,779,125 on road maintenance; $847,062 on road cleaning; $2,328, 827 spent on salaries, wages and allowances (for all infrastructure staff, including artisans); $439,896 was spent on building maintenance (materials only); $260,761 on the schools’ summer maintenance programme and $813,517 was spent on general administration salaries.

Burgin further explained that a little over $1 million had been allocated for works already in progress, and those are expected to begin shortly.

“These contracts have been signed, but work has been delayed for some time due to the unavailability of hot mix asphalt,” Burgin explained.

“This challenge has been nicely resolved for the next few weeks,” he added. (DD)
