From the ‘block’ to a better place!

As the Youth Affairs Department celebrates Youth Month 2010 under the theme “Building our future making youths our Pillars”, the community of Park Hill witnessed a dream come true, as the community centre there was transformed into a space where youth can congregate, socialise, educate and look after their wellness.{{more}}

This was made possible with assistance from the Youth Affairs Department and the United Nations Population Fund with the provision of 1 threadmill, 1 exercise bike, two domino tables, twelve folding chairs, 10 pairs of hand grips and 5 pairs of dumbbells, along with a pool board.

On Thursday, October 7, the centre was launched as a youth friendly space with a short ceremony which heard addresses from Prime Minister and area representative Dr Ralph E Gonsalves, who pointed out the importance of having the youths on the block organised in such a way that they continue to contribute to their own development and that of the nation in a positive way.

Addresses also came from Deputy Director of UNFPA Hernando Agudelo who flew in for the special occasion. The space will be under the supervision of the Impact 2000 organisation.

The Youth Affairs Division is hoping to have at least three more of these spaces enhanced by the end of 2011.
