Dr. Gonsalves – Ten days at Mount St. Benedict

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves was moved to tears as he heard his friend and Methodist Minister Reverend Victor Job give a comprehensive review of one of his latest publications.{{more}}

Job reviewed Dr. Gonsalves’ book ‘Diary of a Prime Minister: Ten days among Benedictine Monks, at a prayer breakfast to launch the book last Thursday, September 7, at the Peace Memorial Hall.

The Hall was filled with a number of the Prime Minister’s relatives, friends, as well as senior public servants and colleagues. Also in attendance was Abbot John Pereira of the Mount St. Benedict Monastery in Trinidad.

In his review, Reverend Job highlighted Dr. Gonsalves’ early christian upbringing, as well as his August 2005 visit to the monastery, where he was involved in mass, worship, prayer, rest, reflection, writing and seeking Benedictine guidance.

Dr. Gonsalves, while making his remarks, noted that he re-lived his time at the monastery as Reverend Job quoted different passages from the book.

He thanked the persons who were responsible for both the trip to the monastery and for making the book a reality, especially his wife Eloise.

The Prime Minister gave an insight into his writings, and also a behind the scenes look at his time spent at the abbey.

Before and after the review, speeches and prayers, Prime Minster Gonsalves autographed books for buyers.

‘Diary of a Prime Minister: ten days among Benedictine monks’ is one of two books written by the Prime Minister this year.

The other book titled ‘The Making of a Comrade’ is expected to be launched later this year.
