CDC saddened at Wilson’s passing

The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) and the Carnival Bands Association (CBA) haveexpressed their sadness at the passing of Sylvia Wilson{{more}}

A release from the CDC and the CBA said the Junior Band of the Year Title was renamed the Sylvia V Wilson Title.

For many years at the Mardi Gras competition, Sylvia Wilson entered several winning presentations which added to the glory and spectacle of Carnival celebrations in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Wilson served as a Carnival Administrator in the late 1960’s and 1970’s, serving as the first Chairperson of the Carnival Queen Pageant Committee (forerunner of the Beauty Shows Committee) in 1973 when the Carnival Development Committee was established.

Even after migrating to the United States of America, she continued to demonstrate her continued interest in Vincy Mas’ through her connection with Edison Sheggie John’s Bad Lads and Lasses Mas Band with whom she won the Individual of the Year Title with “Moon Goddess” from the Presentation “Legend of the Cucumaca.

In later years Wilson brought guest presentations from the United States – St.Vincent Diaspora which made appearances at Victoria Park for Mardi Gras, among which was the acclaimed Slam in 1992.

The Carnival Development Corporation and the Carnival Bands Association extend deep condolences to the relatives of Sylvia V. Wilson who made an outstanding contribution to the development of Carnival in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
