Que Pasa claims that he donated money to ULP

Boat operator, Anthony “Que Pasa” Gellizeau, has testified that on several occasions, he personally gave money to former Government Minister and Senator, Julian Francis, as well as the Unity Labour Party (ULP).{{more}}

Gellizeau made this known at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, October 7, a few months after Francis denied under oath, ever having received money from Gellizeau.

Gellizeau, who was called to the stand by defence lawyer, Kay Bacchus-Browne, was at the time giving testimony in the case involving radio talk show host, Elwardo ‘EG’ Lynch. Lynch is charged with making false statements on August 23, 2007, likely to cause fear and alarm.

On the ‘New Times’ programme, hosted by Lynch, he said that Francis, former Minister of Housing and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Lenroy Brewster, were seen at night on August 4, 2007, at Wallilabou Bay, in the company of Gellizeau.

“I have given money to the ULP and Julian Francis was the collector of the money. I gave him money on many occasions, sometimes he would call and tell me to meet him at the ULP Headquarters,” Gellizeau testified.

He added that he would go to the bank and withdraw $20,000 to $40,000 at a time.

Gellizeau said the donations that he gave Francis totalled $100,000.

Gellizeau noted that Francis would sometimes have his secretary count the money. Besides claiming to give Francis and the ULP money, Gellizeau told the court that he has also given money to several charitable organisations here.

He contended that he has known Francis for more than half of his life, but they are not close friends.

The crown and defence closed their arguments after Gellizeau’s testimony.

Chief Magistrate Sonya Young will have written submissions presented to her by October 18 before she makes a decision on the case by November 2.

The prosecution is represented by Director of Public Prosecutions, Colin Williams.
