New Ambassador of Cuba takes office

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to St. Vincent and the Grenadines has officially taken up duties.{{more}}

On Thursday, September 30, the new resident ambassador, His Excellency Pedro Antonio Rodriquez Vidal arrived in the State. The ambassador was accompanied by his wife Maria Concepcion Munoz Prieto and brought along a delegation of Cubans comprising two engineers assigned to the Argyle international airport project and three cultural artists who are here working along with the Ministry of Culture.

On Friday, October 1, the Ambassador presented his credentials to the Deputy Governor General, Her Excellency Dame Monica Dacon. The ambassador is expected to make courtesy calls on the Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph E. Gonsalves and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Commerce and Trade, The Honorable Sir Louis Straker.

Ambassador Rodriquez is the second Cuban resident ambassador to be posted here: the first being Olga Chamero Trias, who completed her four year tour of duty here in August.

Ambassador Rodriquez, a trained lawyer, has an extensive background in foreign policy and related legal matters amounting to over 25 years. He has served as the Cuban ambassador to Cyprus and Director of the Legal Affairs department within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba.

His posting to St. Vincent and the Grenadines builds on the cordial and brotherly relations which both countries have shared since establishing diplomatic relations in 1992. The Government and people of Cuba, a Caribbean nation, has made valuable and meaningful contributions to the health, education and infrastructure sectors of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and is continuing such assistance with two critical projects- the Diagnostic Center at Georgetown and the Argyle International Airport.
