Visiting Adventists to build houses for needy families

Twenty-five students from the University of the Southern Caribbean, led by Director of Campus Ministries Pastor Linley Beckles arrived in St. Vincent and the Grenadines yesterday for a ten-day mission trip.{{more}}

The team will be engaged in the construction of two wooden houses at Buccament and Evesham, respectively, for two needy families.

On Saturday, October 16, the group will be joined by approximately 70 members of the university youth choir and will be deployed for “ministry worship” across the Seventh-Day Adventist churches on the morning of October 16.

Then on the afternoon of that day, the choir will perform a musical recital at the Richland Park SDA church at 4:00 p.m.

Pastor Dermoth Baptiste, Coordinator of the St.Vincent and the Grenadines Region of Seventh Day Adventist , said the objective of this mission trip is to provide “hands-on” experience to students of the University as they prepare themselves to serve broken humanity upon the completion of their prescribed courses of study.

The University of the Southern Caribbean is owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist church and is located in Trinidad.

It currently has a student enrollment of just over 4,000, many of whom are from St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The mission trip is being hosted and coordinated by St. Vincent and the Grenadines Region of Seventh-day Adventists.

Meanwhile, Evangelist Roosevelt Daniels of the Caribbean Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists will conduct celebratory revival meetings this weekend at the Kingstown Seventh-day Adventist church, commencing tonight at 7:00, then on Saturday morning at 9:00. The programme willl conclude tomorrow afternoon at 4:00.

Pastor Baptiste told SEARCHLIGHT that these meetings are intended to renew acquaintances, strengthen relationships with Christ and encourage steadfastness in the Christian race among adherents of the faith.

Evangelist Daniels conducted a large evangelistic campaign in 1990 at Arnos Vale which saw the largest attendance in a single crusade and resulted in over 1,000 persons becoming converts to Christ. The Maranatha church at Old Montrose was born out of that crusade and is this year celebrating its 20th anniversary. (HN)
