Courts OECS Reading Competition participants get certificates, prizes

Courts St. Vincent Ltd, local organizers of the annual Courts OECS Reading Competition, completed several rounds of the preliminary competition this week as the second annual competition continues.{{more}}

The competition is being held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the United Nations Education Social and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and sponsored by Scotia Bank, Bickels, Jujube and SVG TV and Multigraphics.

On Monday, September 27, the North Leeward zone saw competition among the Spring Village Government, Troumaca Government, Westwood Government, Rose Hall Government and Chateaubelair Government Schools at the Questelles Learning Resource Centre.

In the South Leeward zone, participants from Dubois Primary, Leeward S.D.A., Barrouallie Government, Barrouallie Anglican and Layou Government Schools competed at the Questelles Learning Resource Centre, also on Monday.

The students participated in two rounds of competition in which one passage was read in each round. Students were then asked questions related to the passages which were read. Participants were awarded certificates and reading material at the end of the competition.

The Finals of the competition will take place on October 14, 2010. Nine students will compete. The winner of the local competition will receive cash prizes and will go on to represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Regional Finals in Grenada later this year.(OS)
