On Thursday, August 26, 91-year-old past student Eileen Williams née Dougan was visited by a representative group of the Association.

Williams is matriarch of three generations of Girls’ High School students. Her three daughters Jeanne Horne, Cheryl Remy and Erlene Williams-King are all past students. Jeanne Horne was also a teacher and past Headmistress of GHS, and Jeanne’s three daughters Oneka, Zingha and Kande completed their secondary education at the GHS.

Williams recalled some of her experiences during her time at GHS and had on hand one of her books that she received as a prize /award for academic achievement.

Pearl Anderson Herbert, another former student, was visited by the group on the same day.

Herbert, who was an athlete and netballer of GHS, also played netball on the national team. She was Chief Librarian at the Public Library. Her daughter Nicole Herbert is Clerk of the House of Assembly and she, too, is a former student of the GHS. Herbert is sister of Lorna DeBique, now deceased, whose three daughters Joanne, Leslie and Meryl also attended the GHS. Herbert also reminisced on her years at GHS and gave several anecdotes of incidents with teachers and students during her time at school.

Both Williams and Herbert were presented with flowers, gift baskets and memorabilia from the 100th Anniversary celebrations.
