DaSouza, a Taxi Driver from Belair, collected his cheque from the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, during a handing over ceremony at the NLA headquarters at Paul’s Avenue.

Speaking to the press, DaSouza calmly expressed his delight in winning the Jackpot. “Like anyone else, as a winner, you feel good to know that you are winning…”, he said. DaSouza added that he had played the NLA games for a very long time, but at times felt like stopping as he was not winning the Jackpot. “Sometimes I feel like giving it up because you’re playing, playing and not winning,” he said.

DaSouza purchased the winning ticket at the Friends of Scouts booth at Arnos Vale on Friday, August 20, 2010. The winning numbers were 8, 10,11,21,23 and 25. DaSouza disclosed that he is not yet certain how to spend his winnings. “I have to give that some thought,” he said.

Meanwhile, Product Development Officer of the NLA, Anthony Dennie, stated that they had sales of 50.7 million, with the 3D game contributing to 90% of the sales. Dennie encouraged Vincentians to try their luck at the other games as well, while General Manager McGregor Sealy joined Dennie in encouraging Vincentians to continue to support the NLA. He, however, stated that the NLA expects its sales figures to go up. “We do not expect to rest on our laurels,” he said. (OS)
