South Rivers man dies in brutal chopping

The residents of South Rivers are trying to come to grips with the chopping death of Ian Williams, a 54-year-old farmer of that community.{{more}}

Ian’s brutal killing took place on Saturday, August 28.

He was killed during an altercation with another man.

An eyewitness told SEARCHLIGHT that Ian was standing in the company of other villagers when he was approached by another man.

Preferring to remain anonymous, the eyewitness said there was an exchange of words, the confrontation got very heated and Williams was pushed by the man he was arguing with.

“He (Williams) then pelt a juice cup and then the man drew he cutlass and started to chop,” the eyewitness told SEARCHLIGHT.

Brother, Clayden Williams, who lives a short distance from where the killing took place, said when he was told of the incident, he proceeded to the scene where he saw his brother lying in a pool of blood.

“When me go an me see de amount ah blood, me just turn back,” the grieving brother told SEARCHLIGHT.

He said that he then called the police and before setting out to retrieve his deceased brother’s animals. The animals were tethered at Colonarie and Clayden said he was fearful that they would have been stolen.

Clayden expressed sadness over his brother’s death.

“Me and he always go well,” he explained, adding that his brother was a quiet person.

“He used to sell pine and all kinds of fruits, but he doh mek no trouble,” Clayden said.

And this was the general sentiment expressed by the villagers that SEARCHLIGHT spoke with.

Up to press time on Monday, no one was officially charged with the crime; however SEARCHLIGHT understands that someone is assisting the Police with their investigation.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the murder of 41-year -old Allington Bacchus, who resided at Lowman’s Bay, but originated from Park Hill.

Bacchus died on Sunday, August 29, at Lowman’s Bay after sustaining a stab to his left side.

Rudy Jackson, a 63-year-old resident of Sharpes, is assisting the police with their investigation. (DD)
