Head of the SSU Assistant Superintendent of Police Renold Hadaway told reporters on Tuesday that he had been in âconstant communicationâ with McDowall, who had indicated to Hadaway that he had planned to attend the funeral.
Hadaway, however, told reporters he did not know if McDowall did attend.
âThere were so many police personnel at the funeral, it would be very difficult for us to tell you if a particular individual, and in this case, Constable McDowall attended,â Hadaway said.
âAt the funeral, I was the parade commander and I cannot remember right now half of the police who were there, because we were engaged in other activities,â he added.
âYes, it should have been obvious if McDowall attended because of the nature of the incident. But, equally, we have other responsibilities and other issues to deal with. So that could have been something that we would have overlooked,â the senior cop added.
âI can tell you further, I had constant communication with him, even up until (Tuesday, August 24, when he was charged and remanded into custody) and the indication was that he was attending the funeral. But, whether he did or not, I could not say,â Hadaway said.
Police Public Relations told SEARCHLIGHT on Monday that there was a âmaximum turnoutâ of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force at the funeral, with representation from every unit of the constabulary. (KXC)
