For the first time in the history of the church which opened its doors in 1962, a steel orchestra accompanied the Organist as members of the congregation sang to the glory of God.
Starlift Steel Orchestra, managed by Errol Sutherland and Organist Linda Allen provided a blend of pan and organ music, which uplifted the morning worship.
The large congregation responded with lusty singing and expressions of joy, and viewed this as a break-through in Methodist worship. The preacher, Alpian Allen, had invited the steel orchestra to be a part of the worship experience via the Manager Errol Sutherland.
Among the panists was 9-year-old Saaed Bowman, a member of the congregation, and also a young member of Starlift, who has a bright future in pan music. Roddy Dowers outlined the history of Starlift and its role in meeting the musical aspirations of young Vincentians.
