She passed seven of the eight subjects that she sat, with three grade 2âs and four grade 3âs. She was successful in Mathematics, English A, English Literature, Information Technology, Integrated Science, Principles of Business and Spanish. Donnicka also achieved a grade 2 in Human and Social Biology last year.
Teacher at the school, Roderick McKree, noted that there were improvements in English A, with an 87.5% pass rate, and Spanish with a 50% increase from 2009. There were 100% passes in Food and Nutrition and Physical Education, while Home Management and Wood Work gained 70% and 88.8% passes, respectively.
The pass rate for Information Technology was disappointing, but according to McKree, the students cannot be blamed, seeing that there was no teacher for the subject. He, however, congratulated volunteer teacher José Belmar, who did his best. Principles Of Business also got a low pass rate, also because there was no teacher for that subject area.
Over the years, the maximum number of subjects a student is allowed to take for CXC at that the Bequia Community High School is eight, except in situations where the child studies extra subjects in private after-school lessons. McKree noted that there is much room for improvement.
