Grammar School to query CSEC results

The St. Vincent Grammar School is trying to find out from the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) if all of the 15 students who wrote the Home Economics CSEC examinations this year did indeed fail.{{more}}

The school, for the first time, registered students for that subject, and preliminary results suggest that none of the students passed the examination.

Headmaster of the Grammar School, Frank Jones, told SEARCHLIGHT that he believes there was a mix-up and all the students will get passing grades when the situation in rectified.

“It happens every now and then where sometimes students do work and it is not taken into account. Somehow the system misses it,” Jones said, adding that the school was querying the results with the CXC.

“It’s actually the first time the students are attempting it. So we are looking at it more of a system problem rather than a fault of the students,” Jones said.

He said it was “highly likely” that the school will reach its goal of 90 per cent passes in the Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEC) examinations after the Home Economics grades are verified.

The all-male school currently has a pass rate of 88.4 per cent.

Israel Carr, 16, was the school’s top performer this year. He received Grade I’s, including 11 distinctions, for all 12 subjects which he sat he sat.
