This year, a total of 138 students wrote the exam in 22 different subject areas, recording a slight improvement over the results of 2009.

According to a press release, the school’s overall pass rate for 2010 is 94.7 percent, this compared to last year’s figure which stood at 91.3 percent.

Meisha Charles was this year’s top performer recording 11 grade ones with 9 distinctions and one grade two, with Elizabeth Bullock, Courtnae Bailey, Arien Hazell and Sasay Richards also recording 12 passes.

Twenty-one students recorded 11 passes; 40 students recorded 10 passes and 31 students recorded 9 passes.

The release also indicated that Physics and English A recorded the best results with 100 and 98.99 percent pass rates, respectively.

There were 112 grade one passes in English A, with Physics registering 13 grade one passes and 14 grade twos.

Meisha Charles, the top performer for the school, registered 12 passes: 11 grade ones, including 9 distinctions, and one grade two.

“I feel relieved as opposed to surprised,” the soft spoken lass told SEARCHLIGHT.

Charles recorded distinctions in Mathematics, English A, English B, Physics, Spanish, French, Information Technology, Electronic Documentation Preparation Management and Social Studies.

She received grade ones in Geography and Biology with the lone grade two coming in Chemistry.

Charles attributed her success to the support she received from her parents, Dale and Ellsworth Charles, who she said, always encouraged her to perform her best.

Elizabeth Bullock said that the news of her good showing in this year’s CSEC examinations came as no surprise.

Her reason: “because I am accustomed to performing well at school.”

The only disappointment she does have is the Grade two she got in Caribbean History.

“I have a passion for History,” Bullock told SEARCHLIGHT, which is the reason why she pursued it independently.

“And now to see that I got a two, I was like why?” she further explained.

As for the others, she said that she is contented.

Bullock, the daughter of Hilford and Donna Bullock, passed 12 subjects which include 8 distinctions.

She received distinctions in Chemistry, English A and English B, French, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics and Social Studies; she got grade one passes in Biology, Geography and Spanish.

Although elated, Courtney Bailey said she was expecting to perform better in some subject areas.

Nevertheless, the former Girls’ High School student, whose performance in this year’s CSEC examinations is anything but mediocre, said overall, she is contented with her results.

Bailey gained 12 passes, including nine grade ones, with six distinctions and three grade twos.

She obtained Grade one passes in Biology, Caribbean History, English A, English B, Geography, Information Technology, Mathematics, Social Studies and Spanish; she received grade two passes in Chemistry, French and Music.

Bailey attributed her success to prayer.

“Without God, nothing is possible,” she said.

“Being spiritual allowed me to be humble and calm and when I went into the exam room the comfort of prayer allowed me to remain confident.

Her parents, George and Evelyn Bailey, and Grandmother, Elena Robertson, were also instrumental in her success Bailey said.

“They were my driving force; they were there late with me doing my SBA’s,” she said.

But it was the positive attitude that Bailey said she adopted at a young age that has led her to success.
