In 2009, the school achieved a pass rate of 65 per cent, but this year, they have blown that figure out of the water with 83 per cent.

Principal Dora James said that teachers and staff are extremely pleased with the outcome.

“It’s not the target that we had set for ourselves, but we are elated that we surpassed 80 per cent,” she said.

“For those coming up now that’s a challenge!”

Students took examinations in 14 CSEC subjects, including Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Geography, History, Integrated Science, Principles of Business and Principles of Accounts, among others.

James said that she and her teachers were more demanding of students this year – encouraging them to rise to the academic challenges set before them.

She also expressed thanks to the teachers who worked hard at ensuring that students met deadlines.

The Principal acknowledged that it was a struggle to keep students motivated along the way.

“It’s difficult trying to get students to do their work, and even more difficult getting their parents involved in the education process.”
